Welcome To Bourbon Roxx
The Home Of Bourbon And Rock
This is the home page of Bourbon Roxx, the hardest rocking bourbon review site on the internet. We pair bourbon with rock and roll, because awesome things belong together. We provide informative reviews on a wide variety of bourbons. Each post is accompanied by expert tasting notes and detailed information about the bourbon. Consider this website an educational guide to America’s only unique spirit. Of course, our focus is on bourbon, but we occasionally review other whiskies and other spirits.
Bourbon Is A Rock Star
This is a blog about bourbon, because bourbon is a rock star. In the world of liquors, bourbon is the headliner. It sells out the biggest arenas. It tops the charts. Bourbon is the heavy metal of alcoholic beverages. It’s the soaring vocals, the screaming guitars, the thundering bass and the smashing drums of the spirit world. It’s simply the best. Other whiskies, rums, brandies and tequilas are worthy acts, but they all bow down when bourbon takes the stage. It’s what the fans really want. Bourbon is the main attraction, because bourbon roxx!
What We Review
In this blog, we review mostly bourbons, with some other spirits scattered about for variety. Usually, we review single expressions, often allocated bottles that are hard to find at a reasonable price. Sometimes, we do head-to-head comparisons or build flights. These could be multiple expressions from the same distillery, or similar expressions from different distilleries. We compare the effect of age, proof and finish. This blog is not intended to be elitist, though the best bourbons these days usually command a high price. Sometimes, we review everyday bourbons or value bourbons. Not every show needs a high ticket price.
How We Review
We review each bourbon or other spirit in the usual manner, including color, body, nose, palate and finish. These factors determine its quality. We also review its value and its availability. Value depends upon price, quality, age and proof. Availability depends upon where you live, but we will focus on the internet. At the end of the review, the bourbon or other spirit will be scored, based on a criteria developed by Bourbon Roxx. Only the quality will be used to determine the score. Let’s pretend you have infinite money to spend and infinite time to search the web.
The Expert Tastings Are Recorded Live
We sample every bottle live on camera, and we post the video on YouTube. You can watch the tasting as it happens. Find the link to our YouTube channel on the sidebar. We post a link to each individual video at the end of every blog. This is all original, not a rehash from another site. In effect, we intend this blog to be a transcript for our YouTube channel, @BourbonRoxx, where we review the bourbons and other spirits in real time. After all, a movie is better than a book. You can also follow us on Facebook, Instagram, Threads, Twitter (X), TikTok, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Tumblr, Snapchat, Reddit, Discord, Twitch, Vimeo and SoundCloud. Find the links at the bottom of the page.
Pairing Bourbon With Rock And Roll
After the review, we throw in the twist that makes Bourbon Roxx unique. We pair every bourbon, whiskey or spirit with a powerful hard rock or heavy metal song. We carefully choose each track, because it represents something about the spirit. It may be a scent on the nose, a flavor on the palate, a complex finish, the degree of burn, or even something in the name of the spirit that invokes a certain rock and roll feeling. Indeed, the song is meant to be played while enjoying the drink. Sip neat and crank it loud. After all, bourbon roxx! Find the link to our Spotify playlist on the sidebar. We post a link to each individual track at the end of every blog. We include pictures of each bottle. Find the link to our Flickr photostream on the sidebar.
We Can Guide You, But You Decide
Please enjoy the enlightening reviews, while you explore the rapidly developing world of bourbon. We offer you expert tasting notes from our extensive experience sampling bourbons and other spirits. However, it’s important to remember that everyone has a different nose and a different palate. Bourbon Roxx can be a guide to help you understand the elixir, but you have to taste it for yourself. Just because we like something doesn’t mean you will. Just because we don’t like something doesn’t mean you won’t. There is no right or wrong. The important thing is that you enjoy the tasting and decide if you want to have another.
Increase Your Sensory Training
So, how do you start tasting? Sometimes, you may not be sure. You just like a bourbon, but you may not know how to describe it. That’s OK. If you taste it, say it. No one will laugh at you. Just be honest with yourself. Don’t fake it. Meanwhile, we encourage you to expand your sensory training. Open your spice drawer. Grab a variety of fruits and grains. Get some different types of sweeteners. Sample them and then taste the bourbon again. You’ll be surprised at how many flavors you can taste in the bourbon.
